Ingredients
Measuring cup: 200 ml
• 500 g flour (4 full cups)
• 100 ml warm milk (½ cup)
• 200 ml warm water (1 cup)
• 75 ml vegetable oil (½ cup)
• 1 egg white (yolk for brushing)
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
• 10 g dry yeast (1 packet)
Instructions
1. Place the flour in a mixing bowl and make a well in the center. Add the yeast and sugar to the well, then pour in the warm water and milk. Let the yeast activate for 5 minutes.
2. Add the remaining ingredients and knead until you get a soft dough. (Every type of flour is different, so you may need a little more, but the dough should be soft overall.)
3. Cover the dough and let it rise.
4. Once risen, divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll them into balls. Cover and let them rest for 5 minutes.
5. Shape the dough as shown in the video.
6. Once shaped, place them in the oven at 30°C (86°F) for proofing.
7. After proofing, brush the tops with egg yolk mixed with 1 tablespoon of milk.
8. Sprinkle with sliced almonds if desired.
9. Bake in a fan-assisted oven at 180°C (356°F) until golden brown.
10. Once cooled, sift powdered sugar on top.
If you want, you can remove 1 tablespoon of sugar and use this dough for savory cheese-filled pastries. You can also prepare the dough the night before and bake it in the morning.
